Festool LAS-OF 1400 Base Runner with Chip Deflector

At a Glance: Oversized base runner for the Festool OF 1400 router, providing stable support during edge routing together with a 360° rotating magnetic chip deflector for improved sideways dust extraction.

Improve stability, control and dust extraction when routing close to the edge of a workpiece with the Festool LAS-OF 1400 Base Runner. During edge routing, much of the router base may extend beyond the workpiece, leaving the machine with limited support and increasing the risk of tilting or wobbling. The LAS-OF 1400 provides an enlarged running surface that supports the router securely and allows it to glide smoothly along the workpiece. Its maximum 63mm aperture accommodates large router cutters suitable for use with the OF 1400. An integrated chip deflector directs chips and dust towards the side extraction area and is held securely in position by three magnets. The deflector can rotate through 360°, making it easy to reposition when routing shaped components, working around corners or approaching the workpiece from different directions.

Stable router support when working close to an edge

The enlarged support surface compensates for the portion of the router that extends beyond the workpiece during edge machining. This helps keep the OF 1400 level, improves guidance and reduces the risk of damaging the workpiece through uncontrolled router movement.

Product Highlights

  • Improved edge-routing stability: Provides a broader support surface when the router base is positioned partly beyond the workpiece.
  • Reduced wobble: Helps keep the OF 1400 level and controlled during routing close to edges.
  • Large 63mm aperture: Allows suitable larger-diameter router cutters to pass through the base runner.
  • Integrated chip deflector: Directs chips and routing dust towards the side extraction area.
  • 360° adjustment: The chip deflector can be rotated to suit corners, profiles and differently shaped components.
  • Magnetic positioning: Three integrated magnets hold the chip deflector securely in the selected position.
  • Excellent sliding properties: Allows the router to move smoothly across the workpiece surface.
  • Purpose-designed compatibility: Engineered specifically for the Festool OF 1400 router.

Extra Information

  • The LAS-OF 1400 is designed specifically for the Festool OF 1400 router.
  • The base runner is particularly useful when the standard router base is only partially supported by the workpiece.
  • The maximum cutter aperture through the base runner is 63mm.
  • The integrated chip deflector is held in position by three magnets.
  • The chip deflector can be rotated through 360° to suit the routing direction and shape of the component.
  • The accessory supports sideways extraction when used with a suitable dust-extraction arrangement.
  • The enlarged support surface also helps reduce the risk of the router tilting and marking the workpiece.
  • The Festool OF 1400 router, router cutter and dust extractor are not included.

Pro Tips

  • Position the support extension over the largest available workpiece area to maximise router stability.
  • Rotate the chip deflector so that chips are directed towards the extraction point rather than back towards the operator.
  • When approaching a corner, reposition the magnetic deflector before starting the cut so that it does not interfere with the workpiece.
  • Keep the running surface clean and free from chips to prevent scratches on finished or laminated materials.
  • Check that the selected router cutter fits freely through the 63mm aperture before switching on the machine.
  • Make a test cut on an offcut when setting up a new profile or working close to a visible finished edge.
  • Maintain a steady feed rate and keep the base runner flat against the workpiece throughout the cut.
  • Use suitable dust extraction to improve visibility and reduce chip accumulation around the cutter.

How to Use

  • Disconnect the OF 1400 router from the mains power supply.
  • Inspect the base runner, chip deflector and magnets for damage or contamination.
  • Fit the LAS-OF 1400 securely to the router according to the OF 1400 operating instructions.
  • Install a suitable router cutter with a diameter that does not exceed the 63mm base opening.
  • Rotate the cutter by hand to confirm that it moves freely without contacting the base runner or chip deflector.
  • Position the magnetic chip deflector to suit the routing direction and extraction arrangement.
  • Connect a compatible Festool dust extractor where required.
  • Set the required routing depth and secure all machine adjustments.
  • Place the enlarged running surface flat on the workpiece with the support extension positioned over the supported area.
  • Hold the router firmly with both hands and start the machine.
  • Allow the cutter to reach full operating speed before entering the material.
  • Guide the router smoothly along the edge while keeping the running pad flat against the workpiece.
  • Complete the cut and move the cutter clear of the material.
  • Wait for the cutter to stop completely before setting down or adjusting the router.
  • Disconnect the router before cleaning or repositioning the base runner.

Features

  • Oversized running pad: Extends the router&s bearing surface for better support during edge machining.
  • Support extension: Helps prevent the router from tipping where only part of the standard base is supported.
  • 63mm maximum opening: Provides clearance for a wide selection of compatible router cutters.
  • Rotating chip deflector: Can be turned through a full 360° to suit the direction of routing and workpiece shape.
  • Three retaining magnets: Keep the deflector securely positioned while allowing rapid adjustment.
  • Sideways extraction support: Helps direct chips and dust towards a connected extraction system.
  • Low-friction contact surface: Promotes smooth movement and controlled guidance over the workpiece.
  • Tool-specific construction: Designed to fit and operate with the Festool OF 1400 router.

Benefits

  • Greater routing accuracy: The enlarged base helps maintain a consistent cutter position relative to the workpiece.
  • Improved machine control: Additional support reduces unwanted tilting when routing narrow edges and profiles.
  • Reduced risk of surface damage: A stable router is less likely to rock or cut unexpectedly into the workpiece.
  • Cleaner working area: The adjustable chip deflector helps direct airborne chips and dust towards the extraction point.
  • Flexible positioning: The 360° deflector adjustment accommodates corners, curves and contoured components.
  • Fast setup changes: Magnetic retention allows the chip deflector to be repositioned without complicated adjustments.
  • Smooth routing movement: The running pad glides easily across the surface for more consistent feed control.
  • Expanded cutter capability: The large central opening supports suitable larger-diameter router bits.

Application

  • Routing close to the edge of a workpiece.
  • Machining rebates, profiles and moulded edges.
  • Routing around corners and shaped components.
  • Working on narrow boards and panels with limited router support.
  • Guiding the OF 1400 over projecting workpiece edges.
  • Furniture manufacturing and cabinetmaking.
  • Joinery, shopfitting and interior installation.
  • Routing applications requiring sideways chip extraction.

Safety

  • Disconnect the OF 1400 router from the mains supply before installing, removing or adjusting the base runner.
  • Wear suitable eye, hearing and respiratory protection during routing.
  • Use the LAS-OF 1400 only with the compatible Festool OF 1400 router.
  • Confirm that the base runner is fitted securely before connecting the router to the power supply.
  • Do not use a router cutter larger than the maximum 63mm aperture.
  • Rotate the cutter manually before use to confirm adequate clearance from the base runner and chip deflector.
  • Inspect the running pad, magnets and chip deflector before every use.
  • Do not operate the router if the base runner is cracked, distorted, loose or otherwise damaged.
  • Ensure the magnetic chip deflector is positioned securely and cannot contact the rotating cutter.
  • Secure the workpiece so that it cannot move during routing.
  • Keep both hands on the designated router handles and away from the cutter.
  • Maintain firm support beneath the enlarged running pad throughout the routing operation.
  • Do not tilt or lift the router while the cutter is engaged in the workpiece.
  • Wait until the cutter has stopped completely before setting down the router.
  • Follow all operating and safety instructions supplied with the OF 1400, router cutter and dust extractor.
