Festool NS-HK 250x50 Planing Set
At a Glance: 250mm dynamically balanced planing head with a 50mm working width and adjustable planing depth from 0–80mm for demanding carpentry and timber construction.
Transform a compatible Festool HK 132 or CSP 132 hand-held circular saw into a powerful portable planer with the Festool NS-HK 250x50 Planing Set. Developed for professional carpentry, joinery and timber construction, this specialist conversion set allows deep laps, installation grooves and traditional timber-joint preparations to be produced directly in large wooden components. The dynamically balanced 250mm planing head provides an impressive 50mm working width and a planing depth of up to 80mm, enabling substantial material removal with smooth, controlled running. A reversible carbide cutter blade works together with a dedicated carbide pre-cutter to produce clean edges, a high-quality machined surface and rapid working progress. Precision clamping rails simplify blade replacement, while the supplied fixed and movable protective covers provide the dedicated guarding required when converting the compatible saw into a planing machine.
The NS-HK 250x50 significantly expands the application range of the Festool HK 132 and CSP 132. Instead of transporting large beams and structural timbers to stationary machinery, the planing attachment allows deep laps, housing joints and installation grooves to be machined directly on the workpiece in the workshop or on the construction site.
Product Highlights

Extra Information
- The NS-HK 250x50 is designed for the Festool HK 132 and CSP 132 hand-held circular saws.
- The planing head replaces the standard saw blade when the compatible machine is converted for planing work.
- The attachment provides a 50mm working width and an adjustable planing depth from 0–80mm.
- The set includes one reversible carbide cutter blade and one carbide pre-cutter.
- The reversible cutter blade provides an additional usable cutting edge after the first edge becomes blunt.
- The planing head is dynamically balanced to support smooth operation and consistent machining quality.
- The fixed and movable protective covers supplied with the set must be installed before the machine is operated.
- The compatible HK 132 or CSP 132 machine is not included.
- Installation and blade replacement should be carried out only by operators familiar with professional timber-machining equipment.
Pro Tips
- Mark the complete recess clearly on all accessible sides of the timber before starting the planing operation.
- Make a shallow test pass first to confirm the cutter position and depth setting.
- For deep recesses, remove material in several controlled passes rather than attempting the full 80mm depth in one pass.
- Support large beams and rafters securely so the workpiece cannot rock, twist or close around the cutter head.
- Keep the planing head square to the machining line and guide the machine at a smooth, consistent feed rate.
- Turn or replace the reversible blade when greater feed force, tearing or an uneven surface becomes noticeable.
- Keep the cutter head, clamping rails and mounting surfaces clean and free from resin or packed timber dust.
- Check the blade, pre-cutter and all retaining fasteners before every working session.
How to Use
- Disconnect the compatible Festool circular saw completely from the mains power supply.
- Place the machine on a stable surface and set it to the minimum cutting depth.
- Remove the fitted circular saw blade and riving knife according to the machine operating instructions.
- Prepare the existing guard system for the planing conversion as described in the NS-HK operating manual.
- Position the planing head on the machine spindle with the mounting holes correctly engaged with the drive pins.
- Install the clamping flange and mounting fastener using the supplied tool-change pin and specified tools.
- Fit the movable protective cover to the designated pendulum support and tighten its fasteners securely.
- Install the fixed protective cover on the stationary guard section.
- Carefully rotate the planing head by hand to confirm that it moves freely without contacting either protective cover.
- Set the required planing depth between 0 and 80mm.
- Mark, support and secure the timber so that it cannot move or close around the cutter.
- Position the machine at the start of the marked machining area.
- Start the machine and allow the planing head to reach full operating speed.
- Guide the machine through the timber using a smooth, controlled feed without twisting or forcing it.
- Allow the planing head to stop completely before lifting the machine or making any adjustment.
- Disconnect the machine before inspecting, cleaning or changing the cutter blade or pre-cutter.
Features
- 250mm planing head: Large-diameter cutter assembly developed for deep material removal in demanding timber applications.
- 50mm planing width: Suitable for creating defined laps, grooves and joint preparations in structural timber.
- 0–80mm depth adjustment: Supports shallow surface work as well as exceptionally deep timber recesses.
- 30mm mounting bore: Provides the specified connection for the compatible Festool machine spindle.
- Reversible carbide cutter blade: Delivers reliable wear resistance, efficient material removal and high surface quality.
- Carbide pre-cutter: Produces a defined edge before the main cutter removes the centre material.
- Dynamic balancing: Helps reduce vibration and supports smooth operation of the large cutter head.
- Precision clamping rails: Hold the cutter securely and simplify accurate blade replacement.
- Fixed protective cover: Forms part of the dedicated safety guarding required for planing operation.
- Movable protective cover: Provides additional protection around the rotating planing head during use.
- Dedicated tool-change pin: Secures the spindle or cutter head during installation and accessory changes.
Benefits
- Expanded machine versatility: Transforms the compatible circular saw into a specialist planing and joint-preparation system.
- Efficient deep material removal: The 80mm maximum planing depth allows substantial recesses to be produced without stationary equipment.
- High-quality machined surfaces: The carbide blade and pre-cutter create defined edges and a smooth finished base.
- Faster timber-joint preparation: Reduces the time required to produce laps, bridge work and installation grooves manually.
- Convenient on-site operation: Large beams and structural components can be machined directly in their working area.
- Reliable repeated depths: The compatible machine&s depth adjustment supports consistent machining across multiple components.
- Long cutter service life: The reversible carbide blade provides two usable cutting edges before replacement is required.
